CF-105 Avro Arrow Getting Started

This is my first attempt at a Blog. I plan to use it to post about my favorite hobby, model building and to document model projects that I am working on. I have several projects which I have on the go at any one time, Dr Who: Welcome Aboard kit, a Flower Class Corvette, Battlestar Galactica, you get the picture. Recently, I've been inspired to build a 1/48 CF-105 Avro Arrow. The inspiration resulted from a lucky purchase of several books on the Arrow on sale at Chapters. However, as I flipped through these books, I came to the realization that 1959, during the height of the Arrow programme, marked the 50th anniversary of flight in Canada. Since 2009 the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada, I've become more inspired to complete a CF-105 in this calendar year. For those of you who know me, this may be quite te accomplishment!!!

I will be starting with the re-tooled Hobbycraft 1/48 Avro Arrow. I am replacing a number of the kit parts with more accurate detail sets: resin and photetched cockpit replacement produced by North Star Editions as well as MasterCasters Avro Arrow Exterior Detail Set and Avro Arrow Undercarriage Set. I promised a friend to post some comparison photos of the original and re-tooled Hobbycraft kits, which I will do in my next posting.
